Check out my latest garden build … Client asked for a modern, single-level, low-maintenance deck - large enough for a 6-8 seater table plus a separate space for more casual seating. So we designed, built and installed a single-level composite deck spanning one end of the garden - durable, low-maintenance, and built to last. After weighing up the pros and cons of different board options, my customer chose Dino Premium composite decking in Pearl. At 9m long and 5.5m at its widest point, the deck provides 41m² of useable space. Before any on-site work begins, I create a 3D model and design proposal - helping customers picture the finished space and understand the build before a single board goes down. Just an update to show the rose in full bloom on the new arbour! My client asked me to replace their old fence and posts which was holding up a mature and established rambling rose. They were looking for something that would hold the weight of the rose but also had soft lines that would fit into their mature country cottage setting. The solution: Pergola-style arbour with integrated support made from 100mm machined round treated timber with cross-lap joints for cross-bracing. The rounded timber gives a softer, more country style feel and the cross-bracing design is a nod to a more traditional countryside look. The structure was designed and built with the preservation of the rose in mind so it can continue to flourish and fill its new space for many more years to come. #gardendesign #landscaping #gardentransformation #builttolast #arbour #rose #roses #gloucestershire

Check out my latest garden build … Client asked for 4 high-level raised vegetable beds which they can easily access without having to bend over or kneel down. The solution: deliver bespoke vegetable beds 180cm long x 80cm wide x 65cm high. Designed, built and installed these 4 raised beds and backfilled with top-soil. Beds were constructed from treated construction timber with the inside and bottom faces protected from moisture. Panels were constructed using 200mm x 50mm timber. Corner posts are 75mm x 75mm and to frame the top is 75mm x 50mm. All edges have a radius applied to give a softer feel when touched. I’ll be back soon to gravel or lay some turf around the beds and get it all finished off - but it’s looking good so far! Rotting timber steps and decking needed replacing with a fresh approach. With a tight budget and a hands-on client, the old deck was removed ahead of work to reduce costs. A concrete slope underneath meant working with what was already there rather than removing it. The solution: Concrete steps down to a gravelled seating area, flanked by a raised bed. Delivered: • Safe access from the patio • A practical fix for the slope • A seating area without compromising on quality The client chose to finish with decorative gravel and stain the timber to match. Looking back at a deck and raised planters install from earlier this year. To give a rustic look and feel to the surface of the deck, 30mm fine sawn oak boards were used. To match the deck, the raised planters were made from 50mm sawn green oak with the top ledges made from up-cycled decking boards. To add a touch of traditional charm, both the deck and planters were left untreated to allow for the oak to silver. The entire structure is sat on 6x 300mm diameter concrete pillars. I used Ryno self-levelling deck pedestals as I needed the deck to fall in two-planes. One to allow for water run-off, and the other to ensure the deck aligned with the natural slope of the garden. These pedestals allowed for plenty of adjustment and fine tuning. HD Protect Joist Tape used on all the beams and joists. The deck is separated from the lawn with slate tiles which had been covered up for a few months to allow for the tannings in the oak to wash-out. Thermally treated trellis panels installed along fence. These provide a structure for climbing plants, privacy and also act as a windbreak. #gardendesign #landscaping #gardenborderdesign

It had grown at least 1m having missed its trim earlier in the year. Mix of Blackthorn, Hawthorn, Hazel, Dog Rose and Alder with Elm squeezing its way through. The Stihl HSA 130R Pruner made light work of thick branches and the HLA 135 Long Reach Trimmer allowed me to reach across its entire width with ease. Would also recommend the Henchman Pros - they’re adjustable, solid and stable tripod ladders. It was a pleasure to transform these garden borders to create more room for flowers to grow and thrive. By connecting some existing planting areas and widening the border depth provides the customer with the space to layer different height plants, add textures and seasonal interest along the length of the borders. Lovely curved lines really added to the overall look and feel and complemented the cosy cottage situated in its grounds. A very happy customer got a 50m2 blank canvas to plant as many colourful flowers they wanted. Looking forward to seeing how this looks next year!

Low profile galvanised corrugated roofing was used to provide balance, both proportionally and aesthetically. The cedar has been left untreated so it will gracefully silver with age.
